Manual marking/correction

Added by Devin Casenhiser over 11 years ago

Hi all -- I'm having trouble figuring out how to best go about double checking AMCs automatic marking of exams. Not generally a problem, but sometimes students smear the heck out of their papers, or make their bubbles too light. AMC flags those exams in red after auto-marking, which is great.

I can see the boxes that AMC has marked (or not maked) using the "table" button, but I can't tell which particular boxes AMC is having trouble with. When I click zoom, for example, I can see the boxes that are close to the set threshold (the ones that are assumedly problematic), but the boxes aren't labled by question number (only threshold).

So I generally have to eyeball the exam and guess which items AMC had trouble with. That or check over all the items.

Is it possible to get an interface like AMC currently has when you click the "table" button, but have that overlain on top of the scanned paper so that marks can be checked quickly and easily? I'm thinking of something like the annotation reports, only the items would only be marked as "selected".

Thanks!

Cheers!
Devin

From revision r1197, you can select "original" or "scan" to be in the background of the manual capture window. Can this help you?

Sounds like that would be useful. I'll give it a try when I can download/install it.

Cheers Alexis!

By the way -- small bug -- well, not a bug really, but... I noticed that if I export an OpenOffice file, and then re-export the file (e.g., if I have to change something about marking) it fails to open if I still have the OpenOffice file open. I assume this is because I have the file occupied and it can't overwrite it; nor does the program increment the file name in this case (probably a good thing to avoid confusion). But an error message/request to close the file that is open would be a bit more user friendly.

Like I said -- tiny issue, but I thought I'd give you the feedback in any case.

You're right but I don't know how to detect if LibreOffice is already running with a particular file opened.
Please tell me if you have any clue.

I don't know about other Operating Systems but in Ubuntu 12.04 if a file is open in LibreOffice, LibreOffice will create a lock file named .~lock.<filename># in the same directory as that of the file. Here <filename> will be the name of the file.

For example if Test.ods is open then the file .~lock.Test.ods# will be created by LibreOffice.

This lock file is a hidden file and it is automatically deleted when the file is closed in LibreOffice.

So if the lock file is present then it means that the file is open in LibreOffice.

Thanks for the tip. I added a little message when the ODS exported file is already opened from revision r1208.
