What settings/setup can I play with to get better performance?

I assume that while the scanner is running to put the image files onto disk, we can do the "getimages", "prepare", and "analyse" steps concurrently with the scanning process.

Is there some other settings (scan DPI, parameters to various AMC commands) that I can play with to improve performance?

Is it possible to do "getimages", "prepare" and "analyse" on another machine and then write a little program to select all the records in the 2nd machine and insert them into the "main" machine database before doing the rest of the marking process?
